Car is Gone!

Bet that title got you didn't it?  I AM that good!  I haven't gotten rid of it, but it's not here anymore. 

I'm still here!

You may have thought I've given up on this project since updates haven't  happened in a while.  That couldn't be further from the truth.  I'm still working on this project!  I just haven't gotten to updating my blog in a while because reasons.  Here's a quick pic!  I'll update more in the near future and try like hell to get these to become more regular again.

I've Been Floored!

I'm still alive and this project is still moving forward, despite the lack of updates.  I'm trying to find away to make these happen more frequently, but it's been difficult. When I'm not working my day job I'm working on this project so getting updates has been.. interesting..   Here's what I've been up to!

Suspension Mounts!

I've been out of town for various reasons for a while now.  That hasn't stopped me from trying to get items ordered and working on this project when I get time off and on.  Had a whole lot of parts show up recently and installed them to check fitment.

Sunny Southern California

Years ago when I could only dream of getting to rebuild a Celica I found a website that offered fiberglass and carbon fiber panels for these cars (and others).  Now that I'm working on this project I dug that site back up and found the owner in California.

Still Moving Forward

I bet y'all thought this project went the way of the do-do, huh?  Welp, not exactly!  I'm still working through this thing.  Trying to figure out a few processes and talking to other people to get their skills involved!

Turning into something new

As I'm searching for body panels for this thing, I figured I might as well start in on parts and pieces where I could.  I'd already tackled the steering gear box, so figured I'd go for the steering column next.

Having a Blast!

I was finally able to sort out some stuff with this project and get it moving forward again.  Media blasting is complete, and I even got a couple other things done while I was waiting for the work to be completed.  View all of it and the aftermath ahead!

But Wait! Before it can be blasted....

Soooo.. called up the blasting company to validate some information prior to dropping the misses off out there.  Turns out, as I had suspected, that the sand blasting process won't do much for removing the undercoating on the car.  Since that stuff is made of a rubber substance, blasting a media at it just kind of bounces off.  Using the required force to remove it can damage the metal.  Here's what I did to get rid of it..

Disassemble and Make Piles

I haven't given up on this thing yet!  Over the last week I've been further ripping apart items, making piles, and locating people to help me with the next step in this process.  Red on for more excitement!

Its been a while!

Just tossing out a heads up that I have NOT given up on this animal.  Work got in the way and I've been traveling out of state over 80% of the time.  Read on for where I'm at!

Removing the last and final rotisserie prep

It's been a while since I updated.  I'll use the excuse of holidays and other things.. Though I can say that's a bit of a reach.  Over the last few weeks (when I've had time to work on it), I've been working on removing the last of the fuel system and figuring a way to get the car on the rotisserie.

Short Update

This week I didn't have much to update on.  I spent most of the last week working on getting the last of the sound deadener out of the car. I also started looking at tools, rotisseries, and more!

Over the last week I've been working on a few of the items mentioned last week.  Mostly getting the car cleaned out (using a floor sucker), and starting the process of removing the sound deadener from the floor of the car.  I used the power of the internet and SKEERY SCIENCE to do it.  Also! Got a domain registered to make finding this site that much easier!

Continuing the Effort

So I'm going to try to start updating this a little more often.  I'd like to get to a point where I can keep this thing updated weekly.  Thursday updates is what I'm hoping for.  We'll see how that moves along!  Here's a few of the things I've been doing since the last update:

Glass Removal

After removing most of the interior, the wiring, and cleaning out the engine compartment the next major step was removing the front windshield and rear window.  Not only was the front one cracked (thus needing replacement), but the seals were long gone and as part of the overall project they had to come out.

Out with the old

The next step int the process was to deconstruct the car down to a bare chassis.  This will get it ready it ready for media blasting the process to build it back up from the ground.  It also makes it easier to get on a rotisserie.
